Skiing like a Norwegian

This guided trip is perfect if you want to try a short, safe and fun ski tour in friendly mountain terrain – without knowing much (or anything) about skiing. During three hours of cross-country skiing, your guide will help you improve your balance and provide basic technique tips. By the end of this trip you will notice how your skills have improved – and perhaphs you’ve come to appreciate the Norwegian skiing traditions a bit more.

This trip includes a qualified guide, train tickets, locally crafted food and skiing equipment. All you need to bring is solid, warm winter clothing and a positive mind.

We start the day with a 40-minute train ride from Voss to Mjølfjell. As we exit the train, we find ourselves in the middle of impressive mountain nature, with plenty of snow to play in. The steep, exhilirating path down to our starting point sets the standard for this experience: lots of fun and lots of half-intended snow acrobatics.

Our base for the day is Mjølfjell Mountain Lodge, close to Ørneberget train station. This is where we pick up our skis and get ready for our ski trip. We will follow the groomed tracks towards Mjølfjell, or Rallarvegen towards Uppsete. We travel through easy, open-forested terrain, across small distances. Impressive, snowy mountains frame the valley on both sides.

After our trip, we gather in front of the bonfire in the cosy living room of the mountain lodge. We enjoy a hot meal and taste the locally produced coffee made by Voss Kaffebrenneri! During your time inside the lodge, your guide will share with you some stories about one of our most famous polar exploreres – Fridtjof Nansen.

Mjølfjell lies in the Raundalen valley, some 35 kilometers east of Voss. The beautiful Raundalen river winds its way through narrow gorges and forested marshlands. Snowy mountains with steep hillsides frame the valley on both sides. The railway line between Bergen and Oslo runs through this valley, allowing for practical and emission-free access.
Wild Voss make a continuous effort in reducing the ecological impact of our trips and activities. We aim to follow the latest GSTC criteria for sustainable travel. As a participant on one of our trips, you should know the following:
  • We follow the Leave No Trace principles.
  • We make use of zero-emission infrastructure whenever possible.
