Lønahorgi peak ascent

This trip follows the same route as the cultural hike to Årdalen up to the tree line. From Årdalen, we make our own way north towards the ridge called Svartahorgi (1037 m). The view gets increasingly greater as we follow the curving ridge across rocky ground and snow patches towards the top of Lønahorgi (1410). Right at the top sits the iconic radio tower, where we get to celebrate ourselves on reaching this superb viewpoint. Weather permitting, we enjoy a bite to eat and regain strength as we take in the view of the far away mountains and glaciers.

We return the same way we came up, or head south along a gravel road towards Voss Resort and the new gondola on top of Hanguren. The distance will be approximately the same whichever return option we go for. Congratulations - you have now made a complete ascent of Horgi!

Reasons to go

This is a demanding and beautiful ascent, covering a wide variety of terrain types. We follow lovely creeks and rivers, grazing grounds and open pine forests. The nature has a more pristine character on this side of Lønahorgi.

Learn about local farming and cultural traditions as we pass several mountain farms, including Staup. Enjoy the view of the wild, sheer cliffs of Lønahorgi's east pillar, and the marvellous views of the nearby mountain plateaus and glaciers.
