Immediately north of Voss lies the impressive mountain called Lønahorgi, or just "Horgi". Rising to 1410 meters above sea level, this mountain isn't quite the highest one in Voss. But none of its mountain neigbours can match it in terms of accessibility, esthetics and character.
We think the east side of the mountain has most to offer. Our multilingual and competent guides are happy to take you on various types of hikes, depending on your wishes and ambitions. We offer both family-friendly hikes on old paths used for mountain farming, as well as demanding peak ascents. Below you'll find closer descriptions of three different trips.
The cultural landscape below Lønahorgi
This is a relatively easy hike through lovely terrain, suitable for families with children. From our starting point near the old farm called Staup, we follow a good path through the forest to the mountain farm called Moldbakken. On the way there, we admire the potholes in the river Moldåni. Our guide will share with you the stories of this place, including the local cultural history. At Moldbakken, we are probably greeted by grazing farm animals, joining us while absorbing the pleasant view of the farmland below.
From Moldbakken, the hike continues towards the tree-line. Up above the mountain farm called Breiming, we step into the big amphitheatre of a valley named Årdalen. We get to admire the impressive, sheer cliffs of Lønahorgi in front of us, as well as the increasingly lovely view to the east. We decide wether we want to continue our hike towards the ridge called Svartahorgi (1037), or just settle for an extended lunch break in the meadows. We return back the same way, and pay a visit to the beautiful cluster of farm buildings at Staup. Perhaps you'd like to try a quick, refreshing bath in one of the potholes? Highly recommended.
Daily departures from May 10 to November 15.

This is a fairly easy hike in lovely, varied terrain. We enjoy a scenery of waterfalls, cliffs, open forests and cultural landscape with grazing farm animals. The nature has a more pristine character on this side of Lønahorgi.
